I earnestly feel that there are no decent colleges (including IITs) offering a B.Tech/B.E in auto here in India. Atleast this was the case when I was in my 12th looking to do something similar automotive colleges.

My advice to you is, dont specialize in auto during undergraduation. Number 1 because there arent any good colleges, number 2 because auto engineering is nothing but mechanical engineering.

Going in for automotive colleges your perspective on various aspects of automotive design, and also teaches you manufacturing engineering etc. which is needed if at all you want a job later.

Companies usually demand generalists at the undergrad level.....if they need specialists in any field like metallurgy/paint tech or even styling they pick post grads.

So plan on doing auto specialization after your mechanical engineering. Going in for auto is going to be a costly mistake, in my not-so-humble opinion of automotive colleges.
